発明家を夢見る天才少年ルイスは幼いころに母と生き別れ、養護施設で育つ。彼は一目母親に会いたいという一心で、忘れてしまった記憶を呼び戻すマシーンの開発に熱中し、見事成功。科学フェアでの発表の当日、彼の前に未来からやって来たという少年ウィルバーが現れ……。
